Usually doctors tell you to cut back on the caffeine, but did you know that a cup of coffee could be enough to drive your migraine away? Since caffeine restricts blood flow, it can actually reduce pain. Add water to the caffeine (like in a cup of coffee), and you take care of another problem that can actually cause headaches, which is dehydration.
Vitamins and Minerals
There are also plenty of vitamins and minerals that have been shown to be beneficial as home remedies for migraines. If your migraines are associated with menstrual periods, then magnesium supplements may very well be the way to go. Also CoenzymeQ10, also known as CoQ10, has been shown to reduce overall head pain.
Foods to watch out for
A small percentage of people who get migraine headaches regularly are actually experience a reaction to a specific food. Of course the only way to know for sure which food is causing the migraine headache is to keep track of when the migraines occur and what you ate before then. However, there are some foods that tend to trigger migraines more often than others. Unfortunately chocolate can trigger migraine headaches, as can red wine and anything else that contains certain amino acids, especially the amino acid tyramine. Another common culprit when it comes to causing migraine headaches is food cooked with MSG.
Ice the pain and do aerobics
If all else fails, then try using an ice pack on your head wherever it hurts. Migraine sufferers probably will not be able to avoid all of their migraines, but knowing how to take care of them when they do happen can go a long way. Also regular aerobic exercise can help reduce the occurrence of migraine headaches, so try to get active before the headache starts and you can’t move at all.
